Meta's launch of Threads, a new competitor to Twitter
In recent years, Twitter has experienced a remarkable rise in the social media landscape. While Facebook and Instagram have dominated the market, Twitter has managed to establish itself as a unique platform focused on news, real-time conversation, and user engagement.
Will Twitter be able to maintain its strong position following the launch of Meta's Threads app?
Let's take another look at the Twitter app together...
Twitter Foundation
Twitter was founded in 2006 and quickly established itself as a space for sharing short messages, called «tweets.» Limited to 280 characters, tweets allow users to quickly share information, opinions, and ideas.
The rise of microblogging
With its microblogging format, Twitter gained popularity due to its simplicity and speed. Users could follow news, celebrities, brands, and their peers in real-time, creating an instant communication experience.
Influence on current events and journalism
Twitter quickly emerged as a real-time information source, allowing users to follow the latest news and live events. Journalists, political figures, and experts also began using Twitter to share information, advocate for their views, and interact with their audiences.

Differentiation from Facebook and Instagram
While Facebook and Instagram focus more on social connections, photos, and videos, Twitter stands out as a platform for public discussion and conversation. It offers a space for debates, discussions on current topics, and user interactions.
Since Elon Musk took over as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, his active use of Twitter has attracted considerable attention. Elon Musk's tweets have often had a significant impact on financial markets and have generated lively debates (oops!).
Elon Musk's presence on Twitter has attracted many followers and boosted activity on the platform. His tweets are often retweeted, commented on, and shared by a large number of users, which has helped Twitter gain visibility and broaden its reach.
However (and yes...), it's important to note that Elon Musk's influence on Twitter isn't limited to just the positive aspects. Some of his tweets have also sparked controversy and debate on topics such as cryptocurrencies and the impact of social media on market manipulation.
Overall, Elon Musk's rise to power and his active use of Twitter have helped to strengthen the platform's influence and visibility, while also sparking heated discussions about the impact of the executive's decisions.
The Rise of Threads
Did Meta take advantage of this instability to launch its new social network, Threads?
The application that was launched this Wednesday, July 5, 2023, had a colorful launch with its 10 million users within its first few hours. Threads is downloadable, as of now, in 100 countries and operates without advertisements.
Created by the Instagram team, Threads offers a real-time space for sharing public conversations. While Instagram is known for sharing photo and video content, Threads' aim will be to become its extension by adding text, in a space where everyone will be free to express their thoughts. Just like Instagram, it will be possible to follow and connect with friends, creators, influencers, etc.
According to K&D, does Threads pose a threat to Twitter? Absolutely.
The latest scandals on Twitter's side, including the implementation of a limit on the number of messages viewable per account per day, have undoubtedly weakened the platform's popularity.
This is therefore the ideal time for Meta to test its new toy, which will benefit from the rising resistance to everything Elon Musk touches.
So, who's joining Threads? K&D for sure (follow us 😉)!
